Learn to windsurf! Flat water, featherweight gear, and pro instruction will get you windsurfing in no time! This 3 hour class is designed to teach you the basics of windsurfing. Class is suitable for absolute beginners, or those who have had a long gap in their windsurfing and just need a refresher.
Class takes place one Sherman Island at Sherman Island County Park. The teaching beach has shallow water and a protected area perfect for learning. We start the class with on-land instruction and simulation. Afterwards, we head to the water and learn the basics of steering, turning, and gliding across the water. All gear is included.
After the class you'll have enough skill and knowledge to begin practicing on your own, so we recommend pairing this with our Beginner Rental Pass.
After some practice, you can either repeat this class for a refresher (at a discounted rate), or jump into our Intermediate Windsurfing Group Class. We also offer Private Lessons 7 days a week if you want to work on specific skills.
- 5:1 Student / Instructor ratio
Swimwear - Most students are comfortable in boardshorts and a synthetic top (cotton is not recommended). Shorty wetsuit rental is included, or you can purchase one at the shop. Most people are warm enough without a wetsuit since the class is taught in shallow water, but if you tend to get cold we recommend wearing one.
Water shoes - We do not have water shoes available for rent, but we have some for purchase. They are not required (teaching takes place on a sandy beach), but some people like the extra assurance in case of debris on the beach.
- Please also bring Sunscreen, Drinks, Snacks (there are no water fountains at the park)
- The County Park requires a $5 Day Pass or a $50 Season Pass, both available for cash purchase at the park
